We welcome visitors who wish to make reference use of the Library and/or Archive during office hours, Monday-Friday 9.00-1700.
As a general rule, we ask you to make an appointment at least two working days in advance.
Most visitors are asked to pay a fee as listed below, and will need a £10 refundable deposit for a card if they wish to photocopy or print material.

Charges for using the Library and Archive (See also Videoworks below.)
All visitors are asked to bring ID.

Other Alumni members and students at other institutions (Students at The Place – see Videoworks below)
£2.50 for five hours / £5 per day / £10 per week / £25 per quarter (3 calendar months) / £50 per year
Other visitors £5 for five hours / £10 per day / £20 per week / £50 per quarter (3 calendar months) / £100 per year
Choreographers wishing to view Videoworks – please see Videoworks section below.
We can carry out initial searches up to 15 minutes without charge for specific enquiries received by ‘phone, letter or e-mail, and can advise you about likely fees applicable to in-depth searches (normally @ £50 per hour), should we estimate that your enquiry will take longer.
Photocopying and computer printing charges
You will need £10 for a refundable card deposit if you expect to use photocopying and/or printing facilities. Photocopying and printing from PCs within copyright restrictions are charged at:
5p for B+W A4 photocopies
10p per B+W A3 photocopies
5p for B+W A4 printing from a computer
50p for A4 colour printing from a computer
£1 for A3 colour printing from a computer
Students and staff from The Place and London Contemporary Dance School who wish only to view Videoworks items held at Laban can do so free of charge. However, if they wish to use other resources at Laban Library or Archive, they will be asked to pay the relevant visitor’s fee.
Similarly, choreographers can view or record copies of their own performances without charge, though will be asked to pay a visitor’s fee to use other resources.
Videoworks recordings are gradually being added to our stock. Follow the link below to view Videoworks Catalogue descriptions of the recordings added so far.

If you are interested in a recording which we have not yet added to our stock, please provide us with the following information to help us check that we have it, and if so, to locate the recording:
Choreographer,
Name of the dance company,
Title of the dance work,
Date (or year) it was performed.

Transferring Videoworks recordings onto DVD is only permitted when Laban Library and Archive has received written permission from the choreographer(s) of the dance work(s) in question. Provided this has been received, transfers can be made in two ways:
a) the user makes the copy him/herself using DVD-R discs. These can be bought elsewhere or from Laban Library @ £2. (A visitor’s fee may also apply. See above.)
b) Laban Library transfers the work(s) for which the charges are:
Transferring 1 performance onto DVD £20
Transferring each subsequent performance £10
Each subsequent copy of requested compilation £10 (These would normally only be made for choreographers, unless specific authorisation is received.)

Download and complete this form with details of recordings to be copied. Please send this to Videolibrary, Library and Archive, LABAN, Creekside, London, SE8 3DZ together with written permission from the choreographer for the stated copies to be made and the appropriate payment.
