Academic Support and Guidance
Students on the undergraduate programme and the Professional Diploma programmes are allocated an Academic Tutor who is responsible for monitoring their progress throughout the duration of their studies and will offer help with issues related to their individual learning experience. For Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate students this support is provided by the relevant Programme Leader.

Initial and on-going academic and practical support is available from the Learning and Teaching Coordinator who will assess the student’s needs, give advice on obtaining support grants or other resources and act as a liaison between the student and other members of the academic and academic related staff.

Support for Disabled Students and Students with Special Educational Needs
Laban welcomes enquiries and applications from disabled candidates and candidates with special educational needs. Candidates will be judged solely on their technical and academic potential and on the appropriateness of the chosen programme to meet the candidate’s needs. Laban invites disabled applicants to contact the Head of Admissions and Academic Administration to discuss any particular requirements they may have in relation to their enquiry, application or audition and interview.

English Language Support
Once enrolled on a course, foreign students can access support from the EAP Tutor (English for Academic Purposes). This can be during timetabled IELTS revision/preparation classes, or 1-1 tutorials. Draft-checking of written assignments is also available, as well as help in any area where their level of English may be causing them problems.

Pastoral Support
The Personal Tutor and Student Adviser offers practical information and advice on housing, finance and social issues, and is available to support and offer guidance to students on personal development, emotional issues, health and well being. If something is causing worry or upset, the Personal Tutor is available to provide a confidential listening ear, referring students to other support when appropriate and acting as a link between student and institution when required.

Counselling Support
The Laban Counsellors are here to help students cope with problems of a more personal or emotional nature. If you find yourself becoming more confused, anxious or depressed about aspects of yourself, your friendships or relationships, family problems, recent or past traumas, eating disorders, low self-esteem or other such difficulties, then it is best to deal with them sooner rather than later. You don’t have to wait until you have a nervous breakdown before approaching the counsellors!

Appointments are available Monday to Thursday, in the evenings, at the “Cottages” by the main entrance gate. You can make an appointment using the online form on the Laban Counsellors’ website (a website packed with relevant information) or by using forms available at reception or from the Personal Tutor. The counselling is, of course, confidential. Claudio Calvi (Senior Counsellor) & Claire Rice: labancounsellors@yahoo.co.uk; http://uk.geocities.com/labancounsellors/
