ANTHONY BOWNE


AREA OF WORK AT LABAN
Anthony Bowne is Director of Laban and was instrumental in realising the new Laban building at Deptford Creekside, winner of the 2003 Stirling Prize for architecture. Anthony has held positions at Laban since 1983 as a Senior Lecturer in lighting design, Executive Director of Transitions Dance Company and between 1994 and 2003, Deputy Chief Executive.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Anthony is a respected and accomplished lighting designer and a graduate of University College London, Bartlett School of Architecture with an MSc in Architecture (Light and Lighting). His lighting design work includes Adventures in Motion Pictures, Fin Walker and Rosemary Butcher (UK), the Lyric Theatre (Hong Kong), National Theatre (Taiwan) and Hong Kong Ballet (Hong Kong).
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Anthony was one of 10 lighting designers chosen as ‘ones to watch’ in ‘Lighting Dimensions’ (USA) and won a London Dance and Performance Award in 1992 for the lighting design of Yolande Snaith’s ‘No Respite’.
Anthony is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts; Visiting Chair in Dance to La Salle College, Singapore, External Examiner for the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama; and a member of the Board of Directors of The Cholmondeleys and The Featherstonehaughs dance companies, the Bonnie Bird Choreography Fund and the Granada/University of California Davis Artists-in-Residence program
