BONNIE BIRD CHOREOGRAPHY FUND
*

*
The Bonnie Bird Choreography Fund was established in 1985 to support emerging choreographers. Each year the fund offers up to 6 different awards across 3 categories.

The awards are aimed at supporting and nurturing developing choreographers / writers by offering small grants to ease pressures and constraints by choreographers / writers seeking to develop their skills. In this respect, the BBCF occupies a unique position in dance funding by not requiring the production of a specific new piece, but supporting the winners in their current practice and research.

The Marion North Mentoring Scheme is a unique and innovative scheme that pairs each of the two winners with a mentor – an established choreographer or dance artist currently working in the industry. This is a fantastic opportunity for choreographers in the early stages of their careers to benefit from advice, feedback and discussion from experienced professionals.

Any questions or for further information not covered in the guidelines, please contact bbcf@laban.org

To celebrate its 20th Anniversary the Bonnie Bird Choreography Fund supported the following initiatives in 2007:

Writing on Performance, a conference co-produced by Dance Theatre Journal with Bonnie Bird Choreography Fund, Association Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD) and Laban.

The Artistic Directors Dinners co-organised with Dance UK. The dinners were created to offer support and networking opportunities for artistic directors and choreographers.

Writing on the Body, Writing on the Page, three days of informal conversations to discover the processes by which choreographers and writers create work. This initiative was in collaboration with the Royal Court.

The Bonnie Bird Choreography Fund is a working charity. It has given financial support to over 45 writers and choreographers, as well as providing commissions, research and other practical projects. The Fund relies entirely upon the generosity of people who want to support new choreographic work. If you would like to support the fund please send email bbcf@laban.org
