London has four international airports; Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted or City Airport, each less than an hour away from the city centre.
Heathrow Airport
Heathrow Airport (Tel: 0870 000 0123) is located 12 miles west of the city. There are two ways of travelling from Heathrow to London.
You can use the overland Heathrow Express to Paddington which takes about 20 minutes and costs approx. £15 for a single fare or £28.00 for a standard open return which allows you to make your return journey anytime within 1 month.
From Heathrow to Laban
The Piccadilly Line takes you from Heathrow to Holborn. At Holborn change to the Central line, east bound to Bank. At Bank change to the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) which will take you to Cutty Sark
Gatwick Airport
Gatwick Airport (Tel: 0870 000 2468) is located 30 miles south of central London. It is possible to travel to either London Victoria or London Bridge train stations from Gatwick.
To travel to Victoria use either the Gatwick-Express (travel time 30 minutes) which is non-stop and a bit more expensive or on a stopping train which is less expensive but about 15 minutes longer travelling time. Single tickets cost between £10.00 - £12.00 and a standard open return which allows you to make your return journey anytime within 1 month would cost £25.00. The Express trains leave Gatwick every 15 minutes and there are approximately 2 of the slower stopping trains an hour.
To travel to London Bridge from Gatwick, use the Thameslink service. There are approximately 4 trains an hour, the journey time is about 30 minutes and ticket prices are about £12.00 for a single fare and £21 for a standard open return which allows you to make your return journey anytime within 1 month..
From Gatwick to Laban
Use the Thames link service to London Bridge. At London Bridge catch a train to Deptford. The final destinations of trains that stop at Deptford are Slade Green or Dartford via Greenwich. The travel time is less that 10 minutes and a single ticket is £1.70.
Stansted Airport
Stansted Airport (Tel: 0870 000 0303) is located 34 miles northeast of central London. Trains from Stansted to London arrive at Liverpool Street Station.
There are four trains an hour from Stanstead Airport to Liverpool Street. The journey time is 45 minutes and a single fare is £13.80 and £24.00 for a standard open return which allows you to make your return journey anytime within 1 month..
From Liverpool Street to Cutty Sark:
From Liverpool Street use London Underground and the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to travel to Cutty Sark station. Take the Central line from Liverpool Street west bound to Bank. At Bank change to a DLR train Lewisham bound, this will stop at Cutty Sark. A single ticket from Liverpool Street to Cutty Sark is £2.30 and the journey time is approximately 30 minutes.
London City Airport
London City Airport (Tel: 020 7646 0000) is situated 9 miles east of central London. Shuttle buses run every ten minutes from right out side the airport that take you to either Canning Town, Canary Wharf or Liverpool Street Station.
Travel from London City Airport to Laban
Use the shuttle bus from the airport to go to Canary Wharf DLR station. Single bus tickets from the airport to Canary Wharf are £3.50 and can be purchased on the bus prior to travel. Please note that travel cards are not valid on the shuttle bus. At Canary Wharf pick up a Lewisham bound DLR train to Cutty Sark. This journey should take about 12 minutes. A single ticket from Canary Wharf to Cutty Sark is £2.20.
