Pilates Teacher Training Programme

Introduction
The Pilates teacher training programme offers comprehensive training in the principles of Pilates, covering both mat-work and machine based exercise. The programme is particularly suitable for those who wish to gain competence in working with dancers.

The programme is compliant with the teacher training syllabus of the PILATES foundationŽ UK Limited. The stated aim of this organisation is to uphold the highest standards of teaching to ensure that the public has access to quality training, and to establish a common standard for Pilates teacher training in the United Kingdom and Europe.

Course Length
Full-time: 18 months
Validated by the PILATES foundationŽ UK Limited

The programme is structured on a unit basis with students able to enter at designated points.

Principles and Fundamentals Informing the Pilates Method
The Classical Pilates and Evolved Repertoire
The use of Pilates Equipment and Repertoire
Anatomy and Physiology
Movement Knowledge and Analysis
Applications and Methods of Rehabilitating Injury
Professional Disciplines of Referral and Screening
Methods of Teaching
Business Management Skills
First Aid Training
Ante and Post Natal Exercise


Each student will be expected to spend time each week engaged in independent research/studio time.

Assessment
case-studies, personal log book of classes, observations, self-assessment, examination, practical teaching assessment, two written case histories and an essay.

Certification is awarded by the PILATES foundationŽ UK Limited which is affiliated to the Institute of Complementary Medicine.

Entry Requirements
You will normally have prior knowledge or training in movement or dance plus a minimum of 25 Pilates sessions taken at Laban immediately prior to commencement of the programme.

Additionally a satisfactory level of performance in a Pilates practical session conducted at Laban; evidence at interview of a serious commitment to study in the Pilates method leading to practice, and a positive attitude to the opportunities and demands of the training offered on the Programme.

In addition, the following will be required once enrolled on the programme:
Trainee membership of Pilates Foundation
Participation in workshops arranged by PILATESfoundationŽ UK Limited.
Participation in dance health conferences where possible.
Other training options of relevance as and when they occur.
Personal and public liability insurance cover
