PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Sarah Irvine is a graduate from the MSc in Dance Science programme at Laban. Her main area of research investigates the role of somatic practice within dance training. She is also extensively involved in the development and practice of a dance specific interdisciplinary screening programme designed to promote the health, well-being and enhancement of performance potential among dancers. Other areas of her research include scientific studies questioning the importance of fitness training within dance. Sarah is active in presenting and publishing her research, taking part in the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) conferences. She is currently a sessional Dance Science lecturer for DanceUK, Laban, and Roehampton University.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
As a dancer, Sarah has performed in various Vertical Dance projects, Alberta and International Dance Festivals and for numerous Independent choreographers. She has performed throughout Alberta, Canada; London, England; Gdansk, Poland; and Guinea, West Africa.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Emma graduated from Laban, England in 1993 with a BA Hons Dance Theatre degree and gained her Masters in Sports Science at the University of Essex in 1999.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Emma Redding graduated with a BA (Hons) Dance Theatre from Laban and an MSc Sports Science degree from University of Essex. She is a dancer, dance teacher and dance science researcher. Emma performed with the Hungarian company Tranz Danz and then for Rosalind Newman’s Hong Kong based DanceHKNY. While in Hong Kong, Emma was also Modern Dance Lecturer at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Emma is currently teaching contemporary dance technique, Health and Kinesiology and Applied Physiology at Laban. Four years ago, she helped write the first MSc Dance Science Degree Programme in Europe and is now leading the programme at Laban. Emma has been involved in various research projects over the years which have included the investigation of the physiological training needs of dancers. She presents this on-going research at the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) Annual Meetings and has published her studies in the Journal of Dance Medicine and Science.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Her research interests include training methodologies, injury incidence and prevention, developing interdisciplinary screening programmes, pedagogical considerations in technique class, and the physiological requirements of training and performance.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
A graduate of the MSc programme in Dance Science at Laban, Cheryl Cowan is also a certified Feldenkrais practioner and has recently qualified as a holistic massage therapist. Her research investigated the role of somatics as a form of sensory education. In addition to her work at Laban, she taught the mind/body component of the Advanced Diploma in Performance at Birkbeck College. Cheryl is presently furthering her qualifications in sports massage. Her research interests include role of massage and somatic education in injury prevention and rehabilitation. She maintains a private Feldenkrais practice in Surrey.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Cheryl pursued a dance career for 17 years in Switzerland with the Ballet du Grand Theatre and the Zurich Opernhaus before moving to England.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
As well as contributing to the Dance Science M.Sc. at Laban, Dan has been lecturing Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Biomechanics and Sports Injury full time at Kingston University since December 2000. He is currently enrolled part time on a PhD investigating the internal forces produced during the golf swing. He has provided biomechanical support to the British Canoe Union, Surrey County Cricket Club, Surrey Golf Union and many professional golfers. He has also presented research at international conferences. Dan is soon to be working towards gaining BASES accreditation as a Sports Biomechanist.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Edel started her professional dance career in 1996 with ‘Riverdance the show’. She performed around the world as both troupe member and lead dancer until leaving the show in 2001 to return to education. Upon completing her MSc in Dance Science she joined the Dance Science faculty at Laban. Her current area of research includes the assessment of the physiological and psychological effects of creative dance on school children. Alongside this research she is actively involved in Laban’s interdisciplinary screening programme for students and professional dancers, she teaches practical dance fitness classes on the BA programme and is a freelance lecturer specialising in healthier dance training and practice. Her active involvement in dance research has resulted in attendances and presentations at international conferences such as the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) and Tanz Medicine Symposium (TaMeD). She is also the first chairperson of the IADMS Student Dance Medicine and Science Committee founded in 2005.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Although Edel’s current focus is in dance science research her passion for performance continues. She recently performed in the Westend production of ‘The Saughraun’ and was a former member of Henri Oguike’s apprentice dance company, H2O.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Eleanor was awarded a first class BA (Hons) degree in Sport Studies University of Wales in 2000. She went on to receive an M.Sc. with distinction in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Liverpool John Moores University in 2001. Eleanor has also completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education.
PROFFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
As well as contributing to the Dance Science M.Sc. at Laban, Eleanor teaches Sport and Exercise Psychology full time at Kingston University. She is actively involved in research and her interests include self-perceptions and related factors, perfectionism, and the application of psychological theory and performance techniques in dance. Her M.Sc. research focused on self-perception and physical activity participation and was a prize winner at the British Association of Sport and Exercises Sciences (BASES) student conference in 2002.She has also presented research at other national and international conferences. Eleanor is soon to be working towards her PhD and gaining BASES accreditation as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist.
