Independent Study Programme
The Independent Study Programme (ISP) is the most open and flexible of the One Year Programmes. It draws from the same subject list as the Diploma in Dance Studies, but there are no compulsory components, so you can devise the programme of your choice from the range of subjects offered. This enables you to select areas of dance study that will support you in working towards your individual learning / training / professional goals. We would usually recommend that people select the Diploma in Dance Studies if they are looking for a structured approach to their dance training, but the ISP works well for people who are experienced independent learners and need maximum flexibility in their timetable, or who only want to study particular subject areas within the programme.
Full time: 10 Months
The Programme entitles you to select components totalling up to 120 credits. You may choose to select complimentary or contrasting subject areas; emphasise practical study or sample across a range of practical dance classes, applied study, seminar based academic study and so on.

Each component you select will be assessed separately, some by coursework assessment, others by written or practical assignments. At the end of the programme, you will receive a transcript detailing the components studied and assessed, and will be awarded a Laban Independent Study Programme Certificate.
The programme caters for people with a variety of experience and backgrounds, and the entry requirements reflect this. Entry to this programme is by application form; there is no audition, but you may wish to submit examples of your practice on DVD to support your application. Professional experience, a first degree or other relevant qualifications are accepted and you must show strong motivation to undertake a dance studies programme to further your professional development. English language competency requirements also apply.
