LEVELS + STYLES

This level is suitable for beginners and those who currently take one dance class or less a week or those who haven’t danced for a long time and are refreshing their memories. The classes will focus on enjoyment and developing confidence as you learn the essential foundations of the technique.
This level is aimed at people with a good knowledge of the technique, who want to improve and develop their skills. Participants should already be taking at least two dance classes a week. The classes will require a greater movement vocabulary than level 1 and will move at a faster pace.
This level is for those who are in full-time dance training or have completed a professional dance training course. These challenging classes will demand a strong standard of technique and a high level of fitness. Participants should expect fast-paced material to stretch facility and versatility, with a focus on performance qualities
Classes at General Level will be suitable for participants at all levels of ability.
The Mixed Teachers Contemporary classes give participants the opportunity to experience a range of styles and techniques offered by an assortment of teachers across the fortnight. The level will be suitable for participants with a good knowledge of contemporary technique and will be fast paced. The course is taught by highly acclaimed dance teachers who are either members of the Laban Faculty or professional dance companies.
Cunningham focusing on the articulation of the body in space, rhythm and shape.
Graham focuses on the principles of contraction and release.
Limon exploring the use of energy in relation to gravity and working with the weight of the body in terms of fall, rebound, recovery and suspension.
Release places emphasis on minimising tension in the body in the search for clarity, fluidity and efficient use of energy and breath.
Horton covers an enormous diversity of movement, some for strengthening and stretching and others move through space on all possible levels. |
