Daniel Larrieu
The Bonnie Bird Choreography Fund was established in 1985 to support and promote innovative choreographers in Britain, Europe and America. Bonnie Bird was a member of the original Martha Graham Dance Company and became one of the first recognised teachers of the Graham technique. On her 70th birthday, friends and colleagues from around the world gave generous donations to mark her 50-year involvement in dance and she responded by setting up the Bonnie Bird Choreography Fund. Daniel Larrieu recently received the 2007/2008 biennial International Award, which provides a commission for a choreographer to work with Transitions Dance Company, based at Laban.

Born in Marseille in 1957, Daniel Larrieu began as a professional dancer in the early 80’s. Considered an outstanding figure of French contemporary dance, Daniel Larrieu has choreographed for Opera de Paris, National superior conservatory of music and dance of Paris and Lyon, Frankfurt Ballet, and Festival d’Avignon. From 1982 (when winning his first choreographic award) until the present day, Daniel has choreographed several pieces. In June 2006 Daniel becomes dance representative at the Dramatic Author and Composer Society (SACD), and in that same month restages ‘Waterproof’ (the aquatic piece of 1986) at the National Choreographic Centre of Angers (CNDC). From September 2007, Daniel has been working on ‘Landscape’, this project is composed of several choreographic experiences being led in different places (seaside, gardens, woods) working with artists from a variety of different fields. Following this the company was invited to perform a site specific piece on a Richard Serra piece. Prior to his arrival in the UK Daniel completed a project working as a movement coach, on Muriel Teodori’s ‘Welcome to the Voice’ staring Sting and Sylvia Schwartz at the Theatre du Chatelet (Paris).
